The Department of Health Promotion & Disease Prevention is made up of professionals from various areas of knowledge focusing on major health-related issues on a national scale including obesity, tobacco-use and sexual health. The department is responsible for the monitoring of sexually transmitted infections on the island, including HIV/AIDS and has always invested valuable resources in addressing STI prevention by producing necessary material, utilising the media, carrying out campaigns and collaborating with various public entities such as schools, parent groups, private organisations as well as organisations working closely with vulnerable groups such as youths in prison. The DHPD has also got a record of excellent collaboration with NGOs such as IOM (International Organisation for Migration), MGRM (Malta Gay Rights Movement) and MMSA (Malta Medical Students Association) as well as with other governmental units including Malta’s only Genito-Urinary (GU) clinic which offers free and confidential testing.
